Communication Impacts Children's Lives

Communicating with parents can sometimes become a difficult issue

Inadequate communication with parents can provides limited guidance and understanding for children.

Children and parents do not always agree on policy, authority, or rearing guidelines. This is not new. The real issue is how can one find a position of respect, fairness, and realization of who the parent is in today's society. The most difficult of these issues appears to be men who are incarcerated, and women who have relegated their parental authority and responsibility to their children. In these cases ,the parent becomes the child, and the child usurp parental authority and act as an adult with no restraint, matured wisdom or guidance. Incarcerated fathers present problems families never planned or anticipated. Likewise, mothers never planned to rear children alone, or face discrimination in job pay, child care or maternal illness. These things sometimes become a reality. In cases where there is inadequate communication in the home the streets become the guiding force, and advisor. When children get advice, information, and examples from the streets, a child or his life may be put in jeopardy.

Children are not little adults. They need guidance and instructions until maturity. One of the most effective ways to achieve this task is simple communication. Numerous children have questions that they desired answered. Unfortunately, some students believe they cannot talk to their parents even if parents request they do. The problem in cases such as this is some parents have not established a communication policy with their children. They have not established the concept that they are their parents, and parents are interested in more aspects of a child's life than food, clothing, and shelter. They instill a strong belief that they are open to help,listen, advise, and resolve together any problem or issue they face. They are always there for them,without belittling criticism, and love is always their guiding principle.
